Kwaai, Fastest-Growing Nonprofit AI Lab, Focused on Democratizing AI, Launches Beta Program for pAI-OS, the First Personal AI Operating System, Powered by Swiss Vault

Targeted Initially to Academic Institutions, the Educational Beta Program Has Attracted More Than a Dozen Pilot Applicants.

Los Angeles, CA–August 1, 2024– Kwaai, the nonprofit AI lab developing open source
personal AI, today announced open enrollment for its closed Beta Program to run in
academic institutions during Q3. Host institutions can bring a cutting edge personal
assistant platform to their campus.

Kwaai has developed a Personal AI Operating System – πOSTM (pAI-OSTM, pronounced
“pie oh ess”), capable of supporting many AI use cases. Three such use cases will be
available in the beta.

1. πTATM – Virtual Teacher’s Assistant – is a chatbot that instructors can
configure. It’ll be a student facing browser application that can answer questions
about the course curriculum. It’ll field simple questions on behalf of the professor.
2. πBookTM – Ask the Author – is an AI informed by a body of writing. Students can
query a collection of books using natural language in an engaging alternative to
simply reading the material.
3. πRefTM – Query the Code – is a bot created by admin where the knowledge base
includes the policies, procedures, and compliance codes for the institution.

The objectives of the beta program are to:
● Introduce Personal AI Assistant technology to colleges, universities, and
research institutions and evaluate these three use cases.
● Experience the empowerment of being able to talk to your knowledge and
measure its effect on learning, instructional, and administrative performance.
● Help shape and refine the Personal AI platform.
“pAI-OS will be the first truly personal AI operating system, protecting the interests of its
owner. While the initial beta program is focused on the educational market, eventually

pAI-OS will be freely available – and customizable – to any individual,” said Reza
Rassool, Kwaai’s Chairman and CEO.

Three prototype examples, along with additional details of the technology and a form to
apply for participation in the beta program, can be found on the Kwaai website, here.

Doc Searls, long-time Editor-In-Chief of Linux Journal, added, “Personal AI will be as
revolutionary in the next few years as the personal computer was in the 1980s, the
Internet in the 1990s, and the mobile phone in the 2010s. In all those earlier cases, it
wasn’t companies that led revolutions in productivity; it was people working for those
companies, using their own devices (PCs, phones) and their own network (the Internet).
The same will happen with personal AI—but only if it is based on open source
development.”

Weill Cornell Medicine, Mass Open Cloud Boston University, and over a dozen other
applicant institutions would provide the necessary compute infrastructure to serve their
respective storage and processing needs of the pAI-OSTM services. See server spec.
For host institutions that do not have the infrastructure on-site to support pAI-OS, Kwaai
has selected iBridge Cloud Technologies Inc. to provide GPU and data storage
managed services, powered by Swiss Vault, via its State of California Software
Licensing Program (SLP) contract vehicle.

Paul Smitham, president of iBridge (www.iBridgeClouldTechnologies.com), stated “AI
represents the future, but numerous organizations lack the essential infrastructure to
fully capitalize on AI applications. iBridge’s data management platform, powered by
Swiss Vault, offers a seamless, secure, geo-distributed, and scalable platform for
efficiently accessing GPUs and data storage for AI. We’re thrilled about the opportunity
to collaborate with Kwaai and its beta program participants.”

About Kwaai
Kwaai is a 501c3 nonprofit, open source AI lab devoted to democratizing artificial
intelligence so everyone can reap the benefits and avoid the enormous risks of an AI
controlled by a few companies. An altruistic initiative, Kwaai is enabling individuals to
create and manage their own AI assistants with the principles of self-sovereignty,
privacy, and human alignment. As a counterweight to the AI oligopoly, Kwaai fosters
competition through open-source development, AI research and a vibrant, inclusive
commercial ecosystem for Personal AI. Founded in 2023 by tech industry veteran Reza
Rassool, Kwaai is a grassroots movement open to everyone. To learn more and join the
